OzBusTHE TRIP

All Aboard!

OZBUS is leaving, and this is one experience that you don’t want to miss. Founded on the principle that getting there is more than half the fun, OzBus offers you a radical alternative to flying. With a converted bus as your new home on wheels, we roll from country to country, visiting some of the most stunning and remote locations on earth as we head halfway across the planet.  As owner and founder Mark Creasey explains, "If how you get to your destination is as important as the destination itself, then you’ll love OzBus"

Simple

Travelling OzBus allows you the flexibility to get off the beaten track, where we use a combination of campsites and beach bungalows to stay. In towns and cities we use a mix of hostels, small hotels and good clean guesthouses.

campingCampsites range from well-established camps with an array of facilities that sometimes includes a bar, mini-mart or even a pool, to more basic camps with few facilities and cold showers. Bush camping on occasion allows us to return to the great outdoors and really be at one with nature. Bush camping rates highly amongst our expedition travellers.

Safe

The method of combining bus transportation and tented camping or hostels is the safest, most sociable and cost-effective way of visiting this region of the world where transport links and availability of low-cost accommodation can be difficult to find. We also provide hotel accommodation in less travelled countries like Iran and Pakistan.

friendshipSociable

According to Mark, the "folks that are signing up are not necessarily there for the destination, but for the experience and the people. It is a very social trip. You may well end up making a lifelong friend, you could even meet your perfect soul-mate who finds your campsite antics funny and doesn’t mind your morning breath!" A strong bond quickly forms between travellers, and while a trip begins with a group of strangers, it usually ends with a "family" of travellers.

Flexible

The flexibility of OzBus also makes us unique. Once the bus has parked for the day, you are free to do whatever you please. While some may choose to hike, others can simply read a book, chat, go for a swim or nap beneath a shady tree. Evenings might be spent relaxing in hot springs, sitting around a campfire, or, if the group wishes, we might drive into town and checkout the local nightlife.

Affordable

Financially you will also find OzBus a lot more affordable than independent travel. Because we travel in a group we can always negotiate fantastic discounts for nearly everything we want. Restaurants, tour guides, excursions, etc. all become a lot cheaper.

"So much of who we are is where we have been."
William Langewiesche

travelEconomical

There are times when we will have some long drives in order to cover long distances. These days usually mean that we are getting to the next destination as quickly as we can where most of what we see is out the window rather than at a historic town or city.  But on many days that we travel, we only move for half the day. The landscape and people you pass are never boring and most find it hard to put their head down and read whilst on the road, for fear of missing something!

Most evenings we pull into camp and put up our tent, then either relax with a cool drink, or partake in a local activity. Breakfast is usually cereal, toast and coffee, with the occasional cooked breakfast. Lunch (when included), if we eat onboard, is cold. We always try to arrive at our destination before nightfall (except under extenuating circumstances) in order to pitch camp before dark or find suitable accommodation. Group participation is crucial and you’ll assist with camp chores and erecting/dismantling your tent.

Where there is a longer drive, we generally stay in a hotel at the destination.

Everyone will be expected to pitch in with market shopping for provisions, washing up and other camp chores! If you don’t mind getting your hands dirty; possess a positive yet relaxed attitude, and have a yearning to explore and experience different cultures then you’ll love OzBus.

Eco-tourism

Ecological

OzBus believes in sustainable eco-tourism and support, using wherever possible, other organisations who feel the same way. They'll get you up close and personal with the local people and wildlife as safely as they can, as well as help you understand the culture without damaging the delicate eco-systems.

ABOUT YOU

youWhilst we do not operate an age restriction, we do ask that you are in good health, reasonably fit, and of like-minded spirit and attitude.

There is no particular type of person that travel on OzBus. Some travel in groups but most travel as individuals as it is a great way of meeting people. Some have travelled extensively and others are travelling for the first time. If you want fun and adventure and wish to participate in day to day activities such as buying food in local markets and helping to cook on open fires as well as making lifelong friends OzBus is for you.

All that we require from you is that you have an adventurous spirit, a strong sense of fun and a longing to see the world as it really is. If this sounds like you then come along and take the trip of a lifetime.

Bear in mind these trips aren’t holidays - they are adventures and should be treated accordingly. There will be delays, there may be times when we breakdown or even lose our way, but this is all part of the adventure, remember on OzBus you are a traveller not a tourist.

ABOUT US

OzBusOZBUS is a privately owned company based in London and Sydney.

The crew, fun and adventurous, are also experienced travellers with considerable knowledge and passion for their work. Their mission is to ensure you have the best experience possible. The brain child of Mark Creasey - a passionate traveller himself. When Mark first conceived the idea of starting a regular overland service between London & Sydney, people thought he had gone mad! However the more he thought about it, not only did the idea make more sense, but the more he realised that it could be achieved.

“Every year tens of thousands of travellers set off to the other side of the world seeking the thrill of adventure. The trouble is most of them just do the same old thing. I wanted to set up a service that not only delivers them to their destination, but also lets them visit and experience the amazing world they would otherwise be flying over. And besides, What could honestly be more fun or rewarding than participating in the world’s greatest overland journey and sharing the adventure with a bus load of likeminded souls?”
